Africa in destiny since childhood.
Kenya lived as an enchantment, a garden of experiences, a promise.
For Matteo Vai, 37 years old from Milan, born in Milan but Roman by adoption, it is natural to find oneself today working in Watamu, taking advantage of an existence of experience and passion with professionalism.
The Lenzi Group's Sales and Marketing Director (Crystal Bay, 7 Islands Resort and Papa Remo Beach) is now at the heart of the sea and savannah.
His meeting with Kenya takes place when Matteo is still small.
My father Rino was a sick man in Africa and "forced" every year the family to long and intense "game drive". True adventures for a few years old child, a school of emotions and life!
The memories of that wild country, full of contradictions, surprising and bizarre, form an already sensitive little boy who is ready to colour the soul of beauty.
I have a thousand memories and anecdotes - says the manager - some are indelible images in my memory, as when on the way to a safari I delivered a jam tray,"stolen" from the lodge buffet, to one of the children who came to greet the off-road vehicles. The astonishment of his eyes to taste perhaps for the first time something so sweet has accompanied me throughout my adolescence ".
Matteo today is a man who carries out prestigious and responsible work with passion and enthusiasm and excitedly at the idea of starting his working day by meeting guests at Crystal Bay Resort, starting to study them from afar in order to grasp their preferences and attitudes and then establishing a human contact. Often the same tourists are often the ones who have their stories of Africa told as a young boy.
And he naturally and enthusiastically "infects" them with love for the land in which he chose to live.
Because after his studies and work experience in Italy, in the Boscolo Group, one of the leading Italian hospitality leaders, in 2008 Father Rino was missing and Matteo decided to return to Kenya to strengthen and reaffirm his ties with this country and be guided by the spirit of his father.
Curiously, everything starts where today we find Matteo in the role of director.
At Crystal Bay, room 223.
I look at it every day that passes before us, my life has started again from here.
In a short time, he quickly gets acquainted with the then director of the resort and is immediately considered a valid collaborator. The fervent luminous wake of the connoisseur, explorer and organizer is rekindled in him. And it doesn't take long to arrive at an interesting work proposal as a guide/safari organizer. He doesn't think about a minute: he leaves work and affection in Italy and begins his professional career in Watamu.
Today Matteo is much more than a savannah expert, he feels at ease in the role of supervisor present with the guests "I like to walk around the tables and grasp in the speeches of people what they dream from their vacation, I'm a talkative person, I like to tell my experiences but also listen to the dreams of others, to then surprise them and let this country enter into their heart".
Matteo really takes care of his guests, he is tireless in this role as guardian of emotions and dreams.
Customers who come mainly from Italy are not accustomed to looking and looking inside, they come from an accelerated world. I advise them to get out of the resort, to experience, to take the bike and get their faces bursting with warm air, to "learn" from the dust that rises from the streets. Feel the silences of starry nights (when there is the full moon I take customers to the beach and at some point it is capable of pulling out a book and I make it read). All the senses must be awakened and alerted in order to fully enjoy this experience that must remain attached to the skin, to the retinals, must be lived ".
Because, with more and more work and experience, and with an unchanged desire to live, Matteo's adventure in Kenya continues!
