Chutney is a typical English sweet and sour sauce made with fruit or green tomatoes. It is excellent as a sauce to flavor meat and fish foods.
The British brought it to Kenya during colonialism and tried its variants with exotic fruit. Here is the most famous example, the "mango chutney".
Ingredients:
1 mango cut into slices
1 quarter onion
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
2 pili pili slices
2 tablespoons of tomato paste
Salt q.b.
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 tablespoons of oil
¼ cup of water
Throw all the ingredients in a large pot and bring to the boil.
Continue cooking for about 30 minutes, until the mixture thickens. If served immediately let cool and enjoy!
