Watamu and its tourism industry are strengthened by the recent trade fair in Nairobi.
The "Magical Kenya Travel Expo" has seen hundreds of tour operators and buyers from all over the world alternate between the various stands of the event, all marked by an elegance and style that has qualified those who participated.
"This year's Expo level was the highest ever - commented the chairman of the Kenya Tourist Federation, Mohammed Hersi, commented - with structures that give prestige to our country and our tourism".
Among these, the Medina Palms Resort that represented Watamu, defined by many operators in the sector as an "emerging destination".
Other facilities are expected to upgrade necessary to compete with the most exclusive destinations of the Indian Ocean, and the town to evolve maintaining certain standards, such as cleanliness and respect for the environment, also because as some facilities already suggest (Lonno Lodge, Watamu Tree House) eco-tourism can make Watamu a "unique" in the panorama of the Kenyan coast, a special sea stage within the framework of a nation that is seen by luxury tourism almost exclusively as a safari destination.
